Brain Injury
Rochester NY
Hello my name is Operator. I am not an attorney but
I work for the website and I am here to help you find information. I
hope that you are not visiting us with bad news. |
[Visitor] I'm trying to determine just how much my head injuries are causing
changes in my everyday life
[Operator] I will do my best to help you, but I need to advise you that I am
not a physician. What types of problems are you experiencing?
[Visitor] Since my accident, I seam to have anger issues that I never had before.
I also experience trouble remembering things, the list goes on. I also am experiencing
communication problems
[Operator] I am so sorry to hear about that. Becoming angry or "edgy" is quite
common with a brain injury as well as trouble remembering. When did you have
your accident?
[Visitor] The end of 2004. I have become quite irritable, anxious and a bit
restless. My emotions seam to jump around rather unexplanably
[Operator] Are you currently taking any medications to address the anxious
feelings you are having?
[Visitor] Well I'm on tegretol for my seizures, inderal for the tremmors, and
just started taking ativan this weekend
[Operator] The ativan should be able to help with some of the irritability.
If you don't mind my asking, what happened?
[Visitor] I was on the side of an expressway changing a tire when I was hit
by another car. I ended up under my car and had a seizure that lasted for approx.
20 min before I passed out
[Operator] I really hate that for you, were they able to catch the person that
hit you?
[Visitor] Yes but he was found not be at fault
[Operator] Wow, I will never understand our judicial system. So every since
this accident you have been experiencing seizures and anxiousness - what other
symptoms have you been experiencing?
[Visitor] I have trouble getting out my thoughts sometime, sometimes I talk
too much ( babble),I like to stay alone most of the day- tend to be afraid to
be in public, I hardly ever sleep normal hours--those are few
[Operator] Everything your are describing sounds like it is stemming from your
brain injury. What part of the brain sustained the most damage?
[Visitor] my frontal and temporal lobes
[Operator] I thought it was your frontal lobe. Why was it determined that the
person that hit was not liable for this?
[Visitor] they had lost control of their car after hitting debris from my vehicle
and in 4 lanes of traffic had no place to go. Do you think it would be helpful
for me to seek out a support group where could meet a talk with other people?
[Operator] Yes I do. Support groups can be a great way to work through the
problems that you are experiencing, talking to other people that can really understand
what it is like can make a huge difference in the way you feel.
[Operator] Would you like me to see if I have a group in your area?
[Visitor] please that would be very helpful
[Operator] Ok, what city and state are you located in?
[Visitor] Rochester, NY
[Operator] Hold on one moment.
[Operator] Here is the contact information I have regarding the support groups
in Rochester, NY.
[Operator] Rochester
[Operator] [Visitor] would be able to tell you when the groups meet
and where.
[Visitor] thank's so much for your help. I never knew a site like this was
out there
[Operator] I am glad I could help. I wish you good luck and I hope you are
feeling better soon.
[Operator] Thank you.
